Donations to WellBoring go further than donations to bigger charities or NGOs working in the same sphere.

In fact, donations can go more than twice as far as major organisations, with just £7 getting water to a child for years.

There are a number of reasons for this.

The WellBoring UK charity is run by volunteers, who aren’t paid. We are lean, with little bureaucracy, and few overheads. There is no CEO salary to fund. Donations go towards wells.

In a way, we are “cheating”. We choose projects that are less technically and logistically challenging. We choose sites with water readily available in the ground, mainly between 40-80 metres deep. This means a simple, inexpensive hand pump can be used, and drilling costs stay low.

We engage the community, and expect them to contribute materials, food, unskilled labour. We want them to come up with 10% of the cash cost, ensuring they have ownership and responsibility for their well.

Our wells go on working because we build relationships with the schools, the schools take care of them, we regularly visit, and we are in regular contact.

We have been working with our trusted partner organisation in Kenya - WellBoring GroundWater - since 2015. WellBoring Groundwater is a non-profit NGO that digs and installs the wells, delivers water education, and completes the necessary geological surveys and testing.
